What is soy wax?
Soy wax is a plant-based wax that is biodegradable and comes from a renewable resource (American-grown soybeans!).
Soy wax does not contain the chemicals found in paraffin wax, which is a petroleum by-product and emits known carcinogens when burned.
What are the benefits of soy wax?
We love this question! There are so many benefits of soy wax: it comes from a renewable resource, it's clean-burning, and it lasts longer than paraffin wax so you get more bang for your buck!

Are these essential oil candles?
While all of our candles do have essential oils in them as part of their scent, they are not pure essential oil candles. We generally prefer to use high-quality fragrance oils infused with essential oils because these oils will produce a stronger scent for you to enjoy while being more economically feasible.
Plus, a lot of essential oils have a low flash point, the temperature when the oil will evaporate and vaporize. Low flash points make many of these essential oils not appropriate for candles on their own.

Are the fragrance oils in your candles safe?
Yes, the fragrance oils we use are safe for us to work with in our studio and for you to enjoy as part of our candles in your home. We only purchase the safest scents on the market, free of carcinogens, reproductive toxins, and other concerning chemicals like phthalates.
Our suppliers proudly adhere to “industry-leading safety standards” because safety matters when it comes to what we’re bringing into our homes!

What are your candle wicks made of?
We use cotton wicks for our candles for a long, clean burn. These wicks are made with natural flat cotton threads interwoven with paper to add rigidity. Our wicks are lead-free and zinc-free.
Do you refill old jars or other containers?
Yes! We would love to do the ecofriendly thing and reuse your old jars - whether from Scented Designs or somewhere else. We also can fill unique containers you want to give new life to, such as teacups or mugs.
If you’re local to San Jose, California, you’re welcome to drop your old jars off at our candle studio. Please reach out to us directly to arrange a drop-off.
Do you make wood wick candles?
Not at the moment, but we may expand our candle lines some day!
What size should I buy?
If you’re not quite sure which size is right for you, think about the size of the room you're buying the candle for. One of our mini mason jar candles won't fill up your open concept main floor, but our double-wicked apothecary jar just might.
Can I cancel my order?
We completely get it, we change our minds too! While we wish could, once an order is placed, we are unable to alter or cancel it at this time. We hope to have a cancellation window one day in the future.
Should the item(s) not work out, make sure to exchange for a preferred style or return for a refund. As a reminder, domestic return shipping is free.
Where can I find your candles? Are you in any stores?
A selection of our hand-poured candles are stocked in a variety of stores throughout the Bay Area (and the country!).
To name a few local shops in the Bay Area: Lisa’s Tea Treasures (Campbell), Breathe Together Yoga (Los Gatos), Letter Perfect (Palo Alto), and Modern Mouse (Alameda).
Please visit our Stockists page for a full list of shops that carry our candles. We try to keep this list updated, but please inquire directly with the store if you want to confirm our candles are still in stock there.
Do you sell your soy candles wholesale?
Yes and yes! We love being able to offer our soy candles for resale so you can stock them in your shop.
How do I apply for a wholesale account with Scented Designs?
To buy wholesale candles for resale, you will need to fill out a wholesale application. Once your wholesale account is approved, you will receive an email inviting you to finalize your account and start shopping!
What is your MOQ?
We have a low minimum order of $150 for wholesale.
I was approved for a wholesale account with Scented Designs, but I'm not seeing wholesale pricing. What can I do?
First, make sure you are logged into your Scented Designs wholesale account. Your login info should be the same as the email address you submitted in your wholesale application.
If you are logged in and you’re still not seeing wholesale pricing, please reach out to us directly via email so we can see what’s up.
I submitted an application to shop wholesale candles. How long does it take to get approved?
We'll generally have your application reviewed in 1 business day. If you haven't heard from us in 2-3 business days, please reach out to us via email and we'll get back to you.
Do you charge shipping on wholesale candle orders?
Yes, we charge a flat $40 shipping fee when you order through our wholesale portal. This is often less than the actual cost of shipping candles to your store.
If you place an order with us and feel like the shipping charge should be less for your particular location, please reach out. If the actual shipping cost is less, we will adjust your payment accordingly and refund you any overages.
Custom Label Candles
Do you offer custom label candles with our own branding or message?
Yes! We love taking on custom label projects for our clients. You can learn more on our custom label candles page.
Who do you make custom label candles for?
So many different people! If you own a business or are otherwise hosting an event (baby shower, bridal shower, wedding), we can make custom label candles to fit your needs.
We’ve created branded candles for photographers, boutique owners, chiropractors, realtors, community colleges, gift box companies, medical organizations, financial institutions, corporate events, and more!
What is the pricing for custom label candles?
It depends on a few things, such as if you’re buying for resale or in bulk for gifting. To get the most accurate information, please fill out our Custom Label Candles Inquiry Form and we’ll get back to you within 1 business day with an estimate.
Do you have a minimum order for custom label candles?
Our order minimum for custom label is $200, all in one size candle. If you’re interested in multiple sizes, please inquire about MOQ for each size.
Generally, we do suggest ordering by the 12 if the candles are being shipped in order to use the box sizes to their optimum capacity.
Can I get custom label candles in multiple scents? Is there an additional charge?
Yes, you can get multiple scents of your custom label candle for no additional cost.
MOQ of 6 candles per scent for Apothecary Jar Candles and Signature Jar Candles.
MOQ of 12 candles per scent for Mini Mason Jar Candles and Travel Tin Candles.
Will you design my custom candle label?
Yes, all you need to do is send us a high-quality file (png preferred) of the image/logo you want to use, plus any copy you may want to include on the label. We’ll design the label and send you a mock-up for your approval prior to printing.
Can I design my own custom label?
Yes, if you'd like! Some of our clients have a design already made or want to create it themselves. Just let us know your preference.
I’d like people to know that I partnered up with a small business to have these created. How can I give you credit while still having the label be mine?
We’ll be honest…we love having our name on the candles we make, in part so that we can cross-promote our businesses because collaboration > competition!
This usually looks like a line at the bottom of the label saying “hand-poured by Scented Designs in California.” We can each then market the candles as a collaboration between our businesses with your logo still taking front and center.
Shipping, Returns & Exchanges
We use all major carriers, and local courier partners. You’ll be asked to select a delivery method during checkout.
What is the shipping policy?
Once your order is placed, you will receive a confirmation email letting you know that our fulfillment team has received your order. Once your order is fulfilled, you will receive an email notification with your tracking information. Shipping fees are non-refundable in the case of returns.
Do you ship overseas?
At this time, we do not ship internationally. We are working on it and will keep you updated! The exception to this is wholesale: we do offer international shipping for wholesale orders placed with us through Faire.
