Summer Lovin': Why Candles Are Still Your Best Friend for the Warm Weather Season

Summer whispers sunshine, beach days, and carefree vibes. But does that mean candles get relegated to a dusty corner until fall arrives? Absolutely not! In fact, strategically chosen summer candles can enhance your warm-weather experience in surprising ways.

In this blog post, we'll cover why candles are still perfect choices for summer, how to take care of candles when it's hot out, and some of our favorite summer scents for 2024.

Best Summer Candles

To get the party started, let's cover why we love candles any time of year with these 4 reasons why candles are still your summer BFFs:

    • Set the Mood: Create an invigorating or relaxing atmosphere perfect for poolside lounging, backyard barbecues, or simply winding down after a long day.
    • Beat the Heat: Opt for lighter fragrances that won't overpower the season's natural aroma. Fresh citrus and herbal notes are particularly refreshing.
    • Mask Unwanted Odors: Summer can bring unwanted scents like barbeque smoke or lingering humidity. Candles can help neutralize these odors with pleasant aromas.
    • Bug Repellent Boost: Certain essential oils, like citronella, can enhance the effectiveness of your citronella candles, creating a bug-free zone for outdoor gatherings.

And we know what you might be thinking...hot weather and candles don't go together! How do I take care of candles in the heat?

Here are 3 tips for taking care of candles when it's hot out so you can still enjoy the ambiance + fragrance of your favorite scented candles:

    1. Strategic Burning: Avoid burning your candles for extended periods during the hottest part of the day. Aim for shorter burn times (1-2 hours) to prevent the wax from overheating.

    2. Cool Burning Location: Keep your candles away from direct sunlight or heat sources like vents or stoves. This will help prevent the wax from melting unevenly, shortening the candle's lifespan, or from becoming discolored from the light. Opt for a cool, shaded area for optimal burning, and when not burning, store in a dark place (like a cupboard) as well.

    3. Trim the Wick: As always, regularly trim your candle wick to about ¼ inch before each burn. A longer wick can cause the candle to burn hotter and emit more smoke. Trimming ensures a clean and efficient burn, even in warmer temperatures.
